Our purpose here at South East Texas Bulldog Rescue is to rescue, rehabilitate and place bulldogs in loving, responsible forever homes. Most of the bullies that come into rescue have a variety of health issues that are addressed as soon as they are received. Some of these include skin problems, heart worm positive, entropian (eye problem) and ear problems and sometimes behavioral issues. Rescue bullies are monitored and evaluated until at which time they can be adopted out to a new home. This is anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months, depending on the issues.
SE TX Bulldog Rescue is a non-profit entity. An adoption fee is charged for each bulldog and is determined by the cost of rehabilitation and/or veterinarian expenses. All adoption fees collected are then applied to the next bullie in need. Sometimes these expenses are so great that the standard adoption fee does not cover them.
An application is required and each applicant is screened carefully. Home visits are done and references are checked. SE TX Bulldog Rescue does require that the bulldog has to come back to rescue in the event that it cannot be kept.
We very seldom get puppies in rescue. Most of the rescued dogs are found wandering the streets, the owner may have passed away or cannot keep them for a variety of reasons or owners just turn them in because they no longer want them or can care for them. We will pick up dogs that owners want to surrender and a surrender agreement is completed and signed by the BCT and the person surrendering the dog. I am also contact volunteer for BCARN.
